
THE SUCCESS STORY OF GENDER AND SEXUALITY CONFERENCE 2019
The 2nd International Conference on Gender and Sexuality 2019, was held on 03-04 in Bangkok, Thailand under the theme “Re-thinking Gender and Sexuality: What do we know? What have we learnt? What’s next?”. The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, South Africa as the Co-hosting partner `while University of Genova, Italy, and University of Balochistan, Pakistan as the academic partners for this year’s conference.
The conference provided an opportunity for delegates to share their valuable knowledge and experience of gender studies from various perspectives. Moreover, the conference welcomed 50+ participants from 18 countries around the world.
INAUGURATION CEREMONY
The opening remarks of Gender and Sexuality 2020 were made by the Conference Chair Prof. Shahana Rasool (D. Phil Social Policy –Oxford, Associate Prof.: HEAD of Department of Social Work, University of Johannesburg, South Africa together with Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Managing Director, The International Institute of Knowledge Management).

Panel Discussion on “Power to Decide: Women, Decision-Making and Gender Equality”
In understanding the importance of Gender Equality a panel discussion was arranged at the Gender and Sexuality 2019 Conference. The panel discussion was moderated by the Conference Chair Prof. Shahana Rasool, (D.Phil Social Policy –Oxford), Associate Prof.: Head of Department of Social Work, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. The panelists include Dr. Shirin Abbas, Associate Professor, Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, India and Dr. Rita Bencivenga, TCGEL – Trinity Centre for Gender Equality and Leadership, Trinity College, Ireland. This discussion looked back at big victories in gender equality. The panelists opened up about their biggest struggles against discrimination and how they overcame them through the decision – making. They also discussed the current challenges and how progress can be made.
Workshop on Scholarly Publications
Through the publication workshop, it was intended to disseminate knowledge on writing scientific papers and scholarly publications to assist future researchers. The workshop was moderated by the Conference Chair Prof. Shahana Rasool, (D.Phil Social Policy –Oxford), Associate Prof.: Head of Department of Social Work, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. The Perspective of the publication workshop was to assist researchers who write full papers with the aim of publishing in a reputable journal or in a reputable proceeding. Through this publication workshop, the facilitator was able to disseminate knowledge on writing scientific papers and scholarly publications for future researchers. All conference participants were delighted and graced by this opportunity.
PUBLICATION IN PROGRESS
All accepted abstracts for the 2nd International Conference on Gender and Sexuality 2019 will be published in the conference abstract book with an associated ISBN 978-955-3605-38-2.
All full papers sent for conference proceedings will be subjected to double blind reviewing process and will be published electronically with an ISSN 2782-700x in the proceedings with a DOI Number (DOI prefix: 10.17501).
